“From Damascus to Dunkin: How Coffee Changed the World”
Presented by: Abdul-Rehman Malik
Did you know your favorite coffee has a complex history which started in the mountains of Ethiopia around the 9th century? This hands-on workshop and special guest lecture will trace the origins of the humble Arabica coffee bean from the verdant valleys of the Yemen, where it was first popularly brewed, all the way to your favorite neighborhood café. It’s a story of mystics and sultans, spies and empires, traders and social revolution – with surprises around every turn!  You will learn how coffee as a social beverage literally changed the course of history. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how the civilizations and cultures of the Middle East shaped our lives today.
