Event Description:

The mission of Girls’ Science Investigations (GSI: New Haven) is to motivate, empower, and interest girls in developing the skills they need to pursue careers in science. University students and professors act as mentors and provide a context for exploring and understanding the various disciplines of science through hands-on activities in a laboratory environment. Through student scientific-engagement and parental awareness, Girls’ Science Investigations strives to close the gap in science found between males and females today. GSI occurs 4 times per year and is only for middle school girls.
This week, the theme of GSI is the Extraterrestrial World:
Have you ever wondered if there’s life on other worlds? How do you find out about something so far away? In this session we will learn about different methods of probing other planets. You will experiment with lenses and build useful devices with them. You will also construct your own rocket that you can launch into the sky!
